When purchasing children's playground equipment, wooden slides are often used because of their natural texture and environmental protection. But the safety, longevity and user experience of the product are also directly related to the wood used. The physical properties, anti-corrosion effect, and durability of different woods all affect the lifetime and cost of maintenance of wooden slides used in the environment. 1. Finnish wood.
Finnwood is a general term for preservative-treated Nordic pine (Pinus sylvestris). Actually, it is pinewood with high-pressure preservative, and this chemical process makes it anti-fungal, insecticidal and breathable. Nordic pine has a long growth period, high density and fine and uniform grain, which gives it good constructional properties. Preservative treatment can form a stable protective film on the surface of wood, which can resist contact with the soil and rain erosion. Therefore, it is suitable for outdoor wooden playground equipment. Usually, in the production of wooden slides or pirate ships, Finnishwood will be coated with a polyurethane varnish, which makes the wood grain brighter, more beautiful, and also improves the wear resistance and water resistance of the wood surface, meeting the safety requirements of frequent children.
2. Badi Wood.
Due to its rich and luxurious reddish-brown color, delicate grain and high hardness, Badi Wood has become the preferred material for most high-end wooden slides and kids playground equipment. However, its high density also means that it is very heavy, which greatly increases logistics costs and installation requirements. Ordinary sized African wood outdoor playground need the cooperation of 6-8 people, which greatly increases the cost and difficulty of installation and is only used in large playgrounds or amusement parks. Therefore, it is rarely used as the main structural material in standardized, mass-produced wood slides, but mostly used in customized playground equipment.
3. Preservative Wood(Treated Wood).
Preservative wood is the most commonly used material for wooden slides exported. The main advantage of this kind of wood is that preservative treatment can greatly prolong the service life of outdoor playground equipment. Using vacuum pressure impregnation technology, water-based preservative can be fully absorbed into ordinary wood, forming a durable anti-corrosion and insecticidal layer. It can effectively extend the service life of slides and keep them stable in rainy and humid outdoor environment. Compared with other solid woods, preservative wood is lighter, which can reduce the cost of logistics and installation. Usually, 3-4 people can install a regular-sized slide. More importantly, the qualified preservative treatment process can meet the complicated quarantine and fumigation requirements of most countries.
